The American Coatings Association (ACA) presented its CoatingsTech Mattiello Memorial Lecture Award to Dr. Danny C. Rich, manager of Sun Chemical Corporation’s Color Research Laboratory. Rich delivered the Mattiello Memorial Lecture, “Solid State Lighting and its Impact on the Marketing and Production of Decorative Coatings,”at ACA’s CoatingsTech Conference, March 9-11, in Louisville, Ky.

The Joseph J. Mattiello Lecture Award recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions to science, technology, and/or engineering related to the coatings industry. Joseph J. Mattiello, whose memory is commemorated by this award, did much to expand the application of science in the decorative and protective coatings field. ACA’s Mattiello Memorial Lecture Committee selects recipients based on standards of technical accomplishment, service to the coatings industry, and leadership.

The two-and-a-half-day, biennial CoatingsTech Conference is geared toward enabling coatings manufacturers, their suppliers, universities, and government representatives to share ideas, to continue to grow, and to innovate through effective collaboration

ACA’s 2015 CoatingsTech Conference Mattiello Symposium presenters also included NIST’s Dr. Yoshi Ohno, who delivered a presentation titled, “Color Characteristics of Solid State Lighting Products and Metrology Issues,” and the University of British Columbia’s Dr. Lorne Whitehead, who delivered a presentation titled, “Understanding the Impact of LED Light on Color Appearance.”
